The Acacia Orb-spider

Hesselberg Eustala

The Acacia Orb-spider. An adult female Eustala illicita resting on a thorn of Acacia collinsii while maintaining contact with her web via signal thread. The acacia is being protected by the aggressive Pseudomyrmex spinocola ants, which can also be seen in the photo.

The photo was taken in Parque Natural Metropolitano, Panama on the 3rd of February, 2009.
