This week, I have taken up a short-term ‘summer job’ as Research Fellow (Biological Data Analyst) in the School of Natural and Social Sciences at the University of Gloucestershire. I am assisting Dr Anne Goodenough and Prof Adam Hart in analysing their large citizen science data-set on nuptial flights of the ant Lasius niger (flying ant survey) in the UK using a number of statistical tests and approaches but focussing on generalised linear models in R..

The citizen science project (developed by the University of Gloucestershire and the Royal Society of Biology) asked members of the public to report any sighting of flying ants during the summers of 2012, 2013 and 2014. More details on the project can be found here and here.
